NEW DELHI: Deepti Sharma a off-spinner played the finale of the third ODI match on the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara against the West Indies brilliantly. She achieved the twin five wicket in one-day internationals making her the second woman bowler after South Africa’s Sune Luus to achieve it.
That hosted series Deepti even posted dominating bowling figures of 6 for 31 to give India a win and write her name into the record books. She has not yet taken best bowling by Australian woman cricketer, 6 for 20 against Sri Lanka in Ranchi which she accomplished in 2016. She now becomes only the second Indian lady cricketer to claim eight or more wickets in an ODI; the list comprises of only two players, Mamatha Maben (6 for 10 against Sri Lanka in 2004) and Jhulan Goswami (6 for 31 against New Zealand in 2011).
Lording it with a terrific spell Deepti Sharma dismissed the West Indies for a meagre 162 in 38.5 overs. Opener Pacer Renuka Singh Thakur backed her captain by taking the fourth overseas bowler position and took 4 wickets for 29. The West Indies despite remarkable performance from Chinelle Henry, 61 off 72 balls and Shemaine Campbelle, 46 off 62 balls, fell off the hook.
India easily chasing the target as they won the match by five wickets in 28.2 overs and thus with a clean sweep of the series 3-0. Deepti also sparkle in batting, she was not out on 39 on 48 balls, which was the highest score of the match for the host side.
India had already secured the series with comprehensive victories in the first two one-day internationals.
This latest feat has taken a total tally to 123 wickets in 98 ODIs for Deepti and three five- wickets and two six-wickets haul.
