India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal was controversy given out by the third umpire on the fifth day of the fourth Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Monday. The act happened at the dying end of the match where India still needed more than 100 runs to clinch the match.
Jaiswal who was batting from the other side faced the 71st over bowled by Pat Cummins and tried to pull a short delivery on the leg side. I could not see a nick even to the naked eye though the ball seemed to have come off the bat. Coached loudly, the Australian team tried to get the replay but umpire Joel Wilson could not grant their wish. The Australian captain thought otherwise and sought a review pretty quickly.
The Flow TV replays showed a deflection and there was no jump on the Snicko meter. To everybody’s shock, the third umpire, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat from Bangladesh ordered Wilson to reverse his initial call.
See the rather contentious dismissal of Jaiswal
Some of the Australian players joined in celebrating the wicket, while Jaiswal looked irked, spoke to Wilson and walked off the playing area. More notably, it stands without saying that Snicko did identify the bald much less when it was making contact with the bat or gloves. Sharfuddoula’s instructions were clear: Well, I can now notice that the ball has hit the gloves. For instance, it will be: “Joel, you need to change your decision.”
