Indian investigative agencies require modern techniques for capturing fugitives, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 7, 2025. He started ‘Bharatpol’ a web-based platform designed to accelerate international interaction for Indian agencies.
Specifically, at the launch event held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the main focus was made on the supposedly key feature of the portal – real-time interface. The ‘Bharatpol’ has been developed by the CBI that will help central and state agencies to properly get connected to Interpol and will also speed up the pace of investigation.
‘It is imperative that we employ modern technology and technique to nail and arrest the criminals who have escaped after committing a crime in India,’ said Shah.
He also clarified continuous vigil to external threats and evolving organizational processes to meet them. “Bharatpol is a step in this direction,” he added.
They consist of new operation interface which will enable the Indian investigative agencies to pass and collect relevant information pertaining to their cases from the member countries which are 195 in number under the Interpol.
Shah also talked about the three new criminal laws formulated by the Modi government in the previous year for the useful in trials of fugitives and absconder’s cases.
“I would like to request the CBI to step up as an important training partner for state agencies to develop capacity to use Bharatpol effectively and to understand the new criminal law,” Shah said.
He also emphasized on the fact that these systems should be made more institutional and also for people to know about different notices by Interpol and their working.
It was PTI which first reported the introduction of the ‘Bharatpol’ portal. The aspect of controlling and coordinating Interpol related matters is within the ambit of responsibility of both the CBI and the National Central Bureau of India.
