  • Police said on Friday that a 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly sending bomb threat emails to schools in Delhi.
  • The 17 year boy studying in a private school is class 12 and according to the reports, he and his group of students have been sending bomb threats to various schools.

Details of the Threats:

  • On Wednesday, seven private schools received mails regarding bomb alert familiarization in Delhi alone.
  • This is the seventh time it happened in the last two months.
  • The email, sent at 10:45 am to threaten that powerful bombs were secreted in the schools and would blow up during examinations. The email also asked for ransom from the schools.

Investigation:

  • Out of all the schools that had been affected most of them were in south Delhi.
  • Police followed the Gmail account that was used to send the email, which took them to the boy.
  • The boy sent the threat using a phone and was grilled by the police.
  • He said that he and his friends have been sending these emails as a joke since last year. Some of them employed VPN to conceal their location to avoid getting easily arrested.

The Boy’s Motive:

  • The police officer said, “They wanted to be in the headlines and sent the emails for that.”
  • All the boys in the group, and they are friends, plotted the emails together.

Connections to Previous Incidents:

  • The police are also looking into whether those boys were implicated in another scare in May of 2024 that saw more than 250 schools in Delhi-NCR receive bomb threats that proved to be fake.
  • As for that case, any arrests have not been made yet.

Next Steps:

In this case the police will interview all the boys. This is because all those implicated are Below the age of 18 years, and their involvement in previous events that include the;May twenty five twenty-four event is also under legal scrutiny.
