Vinay Hiremath: Indian-Origin Entrepreneur Behind the $975 Million Firm Sale

Vinay Hiremath of Loom’s co-founder was able to sell off his startup to the Atlassian for $975 million in 2023. Since then he has faced problems with having meaning in one’s life. In his blog post “I Am Rich and Have No Idea What to Do With My Life” he revealed his struggles of rejecting a $60 million job, breaking up with his girlfriend and failures in both robotics and efforts to reform the government.

Currently 33 years old, Hiremath is studying Physics in Hawaii and is planning to start a new venture. Finally, he still believes his next work won’t be as great as Loom, but he expect to get happiness from it.

Who is Vinay Hiremath?
Vinay Hiremath was born in 1991 in a small college town of Illinois. After two years in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign he dropped out to explore his dream of startups in the mini city of Palo Alto, California.

he even got an opportunity to play his first major role as a software Engineer at Backplane Co need in the Silicone valley specialising in a creation of online communities. This was where he was introduces to Shahed Khan, his co-founder at Loom.

Besides, Loom, Hiremath has funded startups such as Enterpret Company.

Building Loom
Later in the early half of 2010, Hiremath co founded Loom with Shahed Khan and Joe Thomas. Forbes shares that Loom, the same platform that deals with creating and sharing short-form videos now connects with more than 14 million individual customers and over 200 thousand businesses .

When Loom started, the founders faced serious financial problems, the company was in danger of running out of money, it survived for weeks. Hiremath even used his credit cards to their limit, in an effort to continue operating the business. Before becoming Loom’s co-founder and former chief technology officer, he was able to secure $200 million in funding for the coming years, hire over 250 employees, and attract over 30 million users worldwide.

Loom, founded in 2011, and based in San Francisco was acquired in 2023 by Atlassian for $975 million in a cash and stock deal .
