Atishi has called on the CEC to address alleged voter irregularities in the poll process while stressing the importance of a free and fair election. As the Delhi Assembly Elections are near, she urged for a quick decision and a meeting immediately.
The Atishi Writes to CEC Again, Seeks Urgent Meeting Over Alleged Voter Irregularities in New Delhi
New Delhi: Delhi’s AAP leader and Chief Minister Atishi again wrote to the CEC on Wednesday to seek an appointment over the alleged practice of adding and deleting the voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. The Chief Minister said that it is critical to call a meeting immediately to address the issue.
Atishi pointed to the letter that suggested that CEC had not been keen on meeting with her; she said she had written this letter and another one within 72 hours. She had first requested it on January 5 to speak about the alleged violations in the process. In respect of her first query, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Lalit Mittal told her that an investigation was on.
In her most recent letter to the CEC, Atishi again brought up a problem of the alleged electoral malpractice in New Delhi constituency, saying that it should be given the highest level of attention and that the CEC should convene an emergency session.
Being with less than 27 days from Delhi Assembly Elections, this issue deserves its consideration as most urgent. We were writing to place our trust in the Election Commission of India to safeguard and uphold the principles of free and fair elections,” the letter said.
“There is only one state – Delhi going to polls at this time and the whole country and media will turn their attention to this election. Under such circumstances the onus is on the Election Commission to keep the election process intact. Once more I kindly request you to send me an appointment at the earliest,” chief minister Atishi in her letter.
