Delhi Election: Parvesh Verma Alleges AAP Leaders Influenced Voters with Chinese CCTV Cameras, Liquor, and Cash Distribution
BJP MP Parvesh Verma Files Rs 100 Crore Defamation Lawsuit Against Kejriwal and Mann
BJP MP Parvesh Verma has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking Rs 100 crore in damages from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Verma accuses them of making false statements about him, with the lawsuit split equally at Rs 50 crore each.
Verma announced the legal action on the social media platform X, stating, “I have filed a defamation case of Rs 50 crore each against Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann. I have also complained to the Election Commission.”
Allegations During Delhi Election Campaigns
The defamation case is a response to comments reportedly made by Kejriwal, where he suggested that Verma had called Punjabis a threat to national security. Verma strongly denied the accusation and defended his record, highlighting the contributions he and his family have made to the Sikh community. He emphasized, “I don’t need to mention what I and my family have done for the Sikh community.”
Verma also criticized the AAP for bringing campaigners from Punjab to Delhi, accusing them of swaying voters with Chinese-made CCTV cameras, alcohol, and cash. He claimed to have filed complaints about these activities with both the police and the Election Commission.
Kejriwal Responds to Verma’s Claims
In response, Arvind Kejriwal condemned Verma’s statements on X, highlighting the significant role Punjabis have played in Delhi’s history and development. He pointed out that Delhi is home to many Punjabis who have made great sacrifices for the country, particularly those who sought refuge here during the partition.
Kejriwal criticized Verma for calling Punjabis a security threat and demanded an apology from the BJP for insulting the Punjabi community in Delhi.
Defamation Lawsuit Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections
This defamation suit comes as Delhi prepares for the upcoming assembly elections on February 5. Parvesh Verma will be contesting in the elections, facing off against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of AAP and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency.
Verma expressed confidence in his party’s chances and accused Kejriwal of spreading false information out of fear of losing. He also claimed that Kejriwal disrespected Hindu sentiments with his comments about religious figures like Ram and Hanuman.
“The people of Delhi will give them a reply on February 5, and on February 8, the lotus will bloom,” Verma stated, referring to the BJP’s election symbol. The elections for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi will take place in a single phase on February 5, and vote counting will occur on February 8.
