As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has officially begun his electoral campaign.
Rahul Gandhi Participates in Rithala Celebrations
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi visited Rithala, where he took part in Makar Sankranti festivities, sharing traditional “dahi-chura” with local residents.
Criticism of Delhi’s Infrastructure
Using the platform X, Rahul Gandhi criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by sharing a video that highlighted alleged shortcomings in the city’s infrastructure and public services. He commented, “This is Kejriwal ji’s ‘shining’ Delhi – the so-called Paris of India!”
BJP Steps Up Attacks on AAP
The BJP has also intensified its criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). On Tuesday, following a Delhi Police investigation into bomb threats at schools, the BJP pointed to a juvenile suspect whose parent allegedly has links to an organization tied to an NGO with “deep connections to a particular political party.”
AAP’s Response to Allegations
AAP dismissed the BJP’s allegations, highlighting that the accusations surfaced just 15 days before the elections, despite the original incident occurring in May last year. AAP leader Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of spreading “fabricated stories.”
Candidates Submit Nominations
As of Tuesday, 56 candidates submitted their nominations for the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, according to the Chief Electoral Officer. The nomination process, which began on January 10, has so far seen a total of 85 nominations.
Noteworthy candidates include Chief Minister Atishi from the Kalkaji constituency, along with her opponent Alka Lamba. AAP MLA Somnath Bharti from Malviya Nagar also filed his nomination.
AAP’s Previous Election Victories
In the 2020 Assembly elections, AAP achieved a sweeping victory, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP won eight seats. Congress did not win any seats. Similarly, in the 2015 elections, AAP dominated with 67 seats, BJP secured three, and Congress again failed to win any seats.
Key Dates
The vote counting for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections is set for February 8.
