The Election commission of India has published the notification for Delhi Legislative Assembly poll on dated Tuesday-7/January/2025. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that Delhi is going to vote in single phase on February 5 and the counting will take place on February 8.
The last date for filing nominations is January 17 while the nominations will be scrutinised on January, 18. Nominees will have up to the 20th of January to withdraw from the nominations.
The remaining Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh and Erode in Tamil Nadu assembly constituencies are planned for by-polls also due on February 5.
“This is a single phase election.” We have deliberately chosen a Wednesday for the polls so as to increase the turnout ratio which we had practiced in Maharashtra,” Mr. Kumar said this in a press briefing.
The term of office for the seventy member Delhi Assembly expires on February 23. Assembly elections in the past have been conducted in a single phase in Delhi only.
The next Assembly elections in Delhi will again provide a triangular contest between the BJP, Congress and AAP. The AAP looks for a third straight mandate in office, while the Congress is eyeing to gain dominance in the National Capital. On the other hand, AAP, while using the melodramatics of a defamed former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against BJP on the issues of corruption, aims at coming to power in the elections.
