He claimed that the community had been sidelined as it was not given a place in the Centre’s OBC list.
Overwhelming Control by Jat Community in Delhi
The Jat community yields significant politician power back in Delhi and the community is estimated to make up 8-10% of the Delhi’s population. Its inclusion in the Central OBC List is a longstanding assertion for educational and employment equity of these categories.
Aspirity for being included in the Central OBC List
Addressing the media during his press conference before the Delhi Assembly elections, Kejriwal said that he had recently written to PM Modi for the inclusion of Jat community of Delhi in the Central OBC list.
State vs. Central OBC List:
- In Delhi, Jats belongs to Other Backward Class (OBC) list of the state.
- However they are locked out of the Centre’s OBC list.
Impact on Opportunities:
- The students of Delhi’s Jat community are struggling for OBC quota for admission in central universities like Delhi University.
- Likewise, they do not avail themselves to grabbing the reservations for the central government job chances such as a Delhi Police vacancy.
This result has been compared with result found for Rajasthan Jat Community.
Kejriwal pointed out an inconsistency in the treatment of the Jat community:
- The Jat community of Rajasthan has been accorded the Central OBC list.
- This enables Rajasthan Jats avail the reservation in Delhi based colleges and jobs , although Jats of Delhi continue to be out of its purview.
Analysis and condemnation of BJP led Central Government
