On Friday morning, several letter bombs that claimed to be a bomb were received by six schools in Delhi and as a result a sweep operation was done by several agencies.
This comes only days after yet another version of the same mass email-bomb threat on December 9 targeting at least 44 schools in the city with help from the police later dismissing them as hoaxes.
Former Delhi Chief Minister and current national convenor of AAP Arvind Kejriwal also spoke about recent threats, pointing to their effect on children and their schooling.
A Delhi Fire Services official reported that the threat emails were received at the following schools: Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar today rose at 4:21 am, Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri opened today at 6:23 am, DPS Amar Colony in East of Kailash at 6:35 am, South Delhi Public School in Defence Colony opened this morning at 7:57 am, Delhi Police Public School Safdarjung opens at 8:02 am, Venk
The situation was escalated to include firing department, police, bomb detection and dog squad teams had to search every corner in each school. The authorities also advised parents to send their children back home or else go and take them from school if they were already there.
The emails, sent at 12:54 am, talked of events like ‘parent-teacher meetings’ ‘sports day’ and then threatened them with bomb explosions that were to take place on Friday and Saturday, sources said of PTI.
The email was found by the Cambridge School principal, Madhavi Goswami, while checking her email inbox herself and immediately informed the police. She calm down parents and said that everything is fine and the online classes for the day are set.
Having earlier condemned Delhi Police and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the earlier threats, Kejriwal also took the Twitter to write about the repetition of the activity. He focused on children and questioned, in Hindi, “So, how worse off will the situation make children if this trend continues?” What will happen to their studies when such differences are made and all lessons are divided into two halves?
Delhi Police said that they were initially probing such cases to maintain safety and security of students and staff.
At South Delhi Public School, a guard said that the parents were advised to take their children back home after the school thought it wise to send them back home.
Before that, on Monday, at least 44 schools in Delhi had reported to have received Bomb threat emails. Huge numbers of students were escorted away from their classes during lectures itself while security agencies launched massive search operations in numerous institutions.
Delhi Police had said that the threats were a hoax by Monday afternoon, as no explosives were discovered during the searches. Nevertheless, the measures were made to enhance the security in all the areas of the city, not only putting additional police patrol and response vehicles near many schools.
