Mumbai Accident: Kurla BEST Bus Crash Claims Seven Lives, Leaves 42 Injured

Mumbai BEST Bus Accident Updates: Seven people died and 42 were injured in the gruesome BEST bus accident in Kurla West in Mumbai as officials reported on Tuesday. The accident happened on Monday night at SG Barve Marg where a bus ran over some pedestrians and other vehicles, the police said.

The BEST bus which was on route number 325 from Kurla to Andheri had gone out of control. In 100 meters, ran over 30-40 vehicles and hit the RCC column of Solomon Building and thereby, the compound wall of BMC is broken, states the BMC.

Analysing the preliminary cause of the mishap, the BEST spokesperson said that the driver of the bus had suddenly blacked out. The transport body also noted that the ‘speed accelerated’ once the driver lost control of the bus and caused multiple car pile up along the route.

In connection with the accident, officials have imprisoned the bus driver Sanjay More for some of the negligence charges. Three people were found dead on arrival at Bhabha Hospital on Monday night. They added by Tuesday, more people had been killed increasing the toll to six, a civic official said.

The accident eventually happened on the route A322 with the bus moving from Kurla station going to Sakinaka. The bus, after ramming people and cars, moved into Buddha Colony, a residential complex, where it halted, people said.

The musical show was performed in a 12-metre long electric bus that BEST had availed on a wet lease from Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech.

After the crash, according to Mumbai Police, SG Barve Marg had to be shut down for vehicular use. BEST diverted its buses on 10 different routes for handling bus operations in and around Kurla station. The destination area Barve Road is another arterial station connecting to kurla station and linking passengers andtransporters to Bandra-Kurla complex and other regions of interest.

Immediate actions to rescue the victims and those who were injured were evacuated to hospitals that were nearby. Officials are now conducting research in order to determine the root cause of the accident.
