Fielding Coach T Dilip Praises India’s Fielding in ODI Series Win Against England
India’s fielding coach T Dilip expressed his joy over the team’s outstanding fielding performance in the ODI series against England. He said it was “incredibly satisfying” to watch the players dive, sprint, and take brilliant catches to stop runs.
India’s Clean Sweep in the ODI Series
India completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODI series after already winning the T20I series 4-1 against England. The team displayed excellent fielding skills, including stunning catches, quick run-outs, and sharp work in the deep.
“We created some spectacular opportunities throughout the series. Whether it was cutting angles on the outfield, taking phenomenal catches, running back, or executing crucial run-outs, everyone did a fantastic job,” Dilip said in a video posted by BCCI after India’s 142-run win on Wednesday.
Team’s Pride in Fielding
Dilip emphasized that fielding is a major focus for the Indian team. He was happy to see the players perform consistently and with composure throughout the series.
“As a team, we take a lot of pride in fielding, and seeing us execute with confidence and consistency was incredibly satisfying,” he added.
Top Fielding Performers of the Series
Dilip found it difficult to choose the best fielder in the series as many players put in great efforts. He praised the performances of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Harshit Rana.
- Harshit Rana: As a fast bowler, he showed great commitment on the field, saving over 10 runs in the series.
- Shubman Gill: He took a crucial catch at mid-off in the second ODI.
- Shreyas Iyer: He impressed with his fielding and earned the ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’ medal.
Shreyas Iyer’s Match-Turning Run-Out
Shreyas Iyer’s standout moment came in the first ODI at Nagpur, where he ran out Phil Salt at a critical stage.
“It’s not just about taking catches, but also saving runs, cutting angles, and making key run-outs. Iyer’s throw to KL Rahul was crucial when England were 75 for no loss,” Dilip explained.
At that moment, England looked set for a huge total, but Iyer’s direct hit turned the game in India’s favor.
India’s excellent fielding efforts throughout the series played a vital role in their dominant victory over England.
