Jaker Ali

Bangladesh Creates History by Clinching 3-0 T20I Series Whitewash Over Powerhouse West Indies

Bangladesh secure T20I series against West Indies with an 80-run win in third match, Jaker Ali scores 72 off 41

Jaker Ali, the young Bangladesh opener, played an unstoppable knock of 72 off 33 balls which most of the time remained undefeated and guided his team to a brilliant 80-run victory against the West Indies in the 3rd T20I, this series putting Bangladesh on the top as they clean swept the Caribbeans 3-0 at Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Thursday. Ali who was given a huge reprieve after a very silly run out when he was on 18, cashed in on the opportunity that was given to him. The aggressive right-hander smote six out of six and all three fours off only as many as 41 deliveries, helping his team Bangladesh post a challenging 189 for 7 after Litton Das had won the toss.

The West Indies who were disgraced in the first two low scoring games at the same venue were never dangerous of coming back. They fell early wickets, beginning with Brandon King who other than scoring a duck underwent out on the very second bye of the Recreation. The hosts were all out for 109 after only 16.4 overs, while the marvellous all-rounder Romario Shepherd scored a fast 33.

The bowling heroes were wrist-spinner Rishad Hossain, 3-21, spinner Mahedi Hasan, who was awarded “Man of the Series,” and seamer Taskin Ahmed, 2-41. Taskin played the biggest roles in that, removing King leg-before early on and then accounting for the local hero Obed McCoy.

During the Bangladesh innings, their opener who was given out on debut, Parvez Hossain Emon played a lively hand and scored 39 of 21 balls. Jaker Ali was the star of the show though through his mammoth display of the aggressive batting. The match could have had a different scenario if Daly had been dismissed as a result of a run-out following a mix up with Shamim Hossain. Jaker at first got angry but then he was informed that he had managed to stick at the ground only a moment before Shamim was fired.

Sometimes they are foes fighting each other to the bitter end but come match finale all was water under the bridge. Shamim was among the first to hug his teammate after Jaker blew the West Indies away with his power-hitting and put Bangladesh 4-1 up in the series.
