Rohit’s non-attendance from the fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground has once again raised debate over his future in the longer format of the game. Indications show Rohit has been informed by BCCI selectors that he is out of consideration for the longer format of the game other than the series against Australia.
This comes after a sequence of poor scoring where Rohit managed an average of 6.2 runs across five innings in the present series. Accordingly, he figured to “take an off “ for Sydney Test, as it turned out to be which created much controversy.
Another two of the finest exponents of the wonderful art of cricket Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri have felt that this could well be the last for Rohit at Melbourne. Saying this Gavaskar said his franchise might have seen Rohit Sharma for the last time in Test cricket, while saying this Shastri added, “He might just pull the plug at the end of this Test.”
Also expected in the meeting are views about the Test future of Virat Kohli as the selectors have lined up to meet with him after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. On the other hand, it may be deemed that senior player namely Ravindra Jadeja will continue to be a part of the test team, as he has a lot to offer to the team.
While India is in this transitional period extensively, then emphasis is on promising players who can replace experienced players. The decisions that will be made towards the next weeks will impact the orientation and the composition of the team in the next Test projects.
