Amir, who last played for Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, announced his international retirement on Saturday through X.
Star Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir, who had come out of retirement in March last year to represent Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held in June of year 2024, has retired from international cricket for the second time on Saturday (December 14) through X.
I have gone over it in my mind and three I am ready to make the right decision of quitting international cricket. These actions are never pleasant but they are needed. I firmly believe that it’s time for the next generation to come in and take Pakistan cricket to even higher level! Amir wrote.
He also said, “It has always been and will always be a great privilege to represent my country. hould like to express my deep appreciation to the PCB, my family, friends, but much more importantly, my fans for their love and support.
Amir played his first international cricket at T20I level on June 7, 2009 against England, on oval.. Hyder opted for Pakistan in all three formats amassing 36 test, 61 ODI and 62 T20I appearances, taking 119, 81 and 71 wickets across all formats.
The powerful left-arm pacer had earlier retired from international cricket in 2020 but later this year he came back and agreed to play for Pakistan in T20I. In the T20 World Cup 2024 he was part of all four group wise matches of Babar Azam’s team. He bowled well against the USA and during their match in Dallas on June 6 he took a wicket and then performed even better in the next three matches in the tournament by taking two wickets in each match against India and Canada as well as Ireland.
Imad Wasim Announces Retirement
Later on Friday, all-rounder Imad Wasim also quit international cricket for the second time. The 35-year-old said he will specialise in domestic and franchise cricket across the world.
Like Amir, Imad had a change of heart previously to return for one day international matches T20Is earlier this year. He was selected in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 team and played three matches, against India, Canada and Ireland .
