Complaint Filed Against Ranveer Allahbadia and Others for Offensive Remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent’

The Mumbai Police has started an investigation after a formal complaint was filed against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of the show India’s Got Latent. The complaint claims that they made offensive and controversial comments on the show.

Police officials confirmed, “The inquiry is ongoing.”

Details of the Complaint

The complaint was registered with both the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission. It alleges that abusive language was used on the show. The complainant has asked for strict legal action against the accused.

The issue started after Ranveer Allahbadia made certain remarks during an episode of India’s Got Latent on YouTube. These comments were considered offensive and disrespectful. Although the remarks were made as jokes, they caused public outrage. The complaint accuses the organisers and participants of intentionally making inappropriate comments about women’s private parts to gain popularity and earn money from the online show.

Public Reaction and Apology

The broadcast, which aired worldwide on YouTube, showed the accused laughing and making jokes about women. The complainant called this a serious offense.

In response to the backlash, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology on X (formerly Twitter). He admitted that his comments were inappropriate and showed poor judgment. In a video, he said, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s Got Latent. I’m sorry.”

He further added, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my strength. I had a lapse in judgment, especially on a platform watched by people of all ages.”

Allahbadia assured that he respects family values and will be more responsible in the future. He also requested the video makers to remove the offensive parts and promised to improve. He ended his apology by saying, “All I can say is, I’m sorry. I hope you can forgive me.”

Legal Demands and Political Reactions

The complaint claims that the remarks were made to create controversy for financial gain, without considering the harm done to women’s dignity or the negative influence on young viewers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to the incident, saying, “I haven’t seen it yet, but freedom of speech doesn’t mean we can disrespect others. If someone crosses the line, action should be taken.”

Former National Commission for Women (NCW) Chief and Rajya Sabha MP, Rekha Sharma, also condemned the remarks. She said, “Such jokes about women’s bodies are unacceptable in society. It reflects a decline in moral values among today’s youth. I have forwarded the video to the NCW Chairperson for action.”

Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Wagamare strongly criticized the comments, warning, “In Maharashtra, under the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, such language will not be tolerated. If it doesn’t stop, we will take action in our own way.”

Call for Legal Action

The complaint highlights the seriousness of the incident and its impact on women’s dignity. It states, “These individuals have made obscene comments about women to gain fame and money. This has harmed women’s honour.”

The complainant has requested immediate legal action against the organisers of India’s Got Latent and for the broadcast to be stopped. They have also asked for criminal cases to be filed under the Indian Penal Code and for a First Information Report (FIR) to be registered against everyone involved.
