Delhi’s Air Quality Index fell back to the ‘poor’ category on Tuesday due to the cold northwesterly winds prevailed in the region that lowered temperatures.
The AQI of the city was measured at 229 (poor) in the morning of 9 am and it had increased at 186 (moderate) at 4 in the Monday evening. Minimum temperature in Delhi was 8 degree Celsius, two degrees below the normal in this part of the season. The low of the past day was slightly higher at 8.2°C. The minimum temperature that we anticipate is that it could drop by 1-2°C within the next one – twenty-four hours and get to 6°C on Thursday.
For the next three days, meteorologists expect a drop in both, the max and the min temperatures due to cold winds blowing from fresh snow fall in the mountains to the plains. Delhi this Monday registered the lowest maximum temperature of this season, 21.6 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees below normal. Earlier, the minimum maximum temperature recorded this season was registered on November 17 and was equal to 23.5В°C. The AQI recorded at 9 in the morning on Tuesday for Delhi was computed from 38 air quality sampling sites. None of these stations indicated air quality as ‘Very Poor,’ however, 28 stations were labelled ‘Poor’ with the rest being ‘Moderate.’ Out of the seven studied micro regions, Jahangirpuri had the highest mean AQI of 297.

The Monday represented the fourth straight ‘moderate’ air quality day in December; the most in one month since the AQI regime was adopted in 2015. Before this, the three states registered three ‘moderate’ days in December, in 2022, 2019, and 2015. For that matter, the AQI has never been in the categories below moderate in December with the worst score being 140 on December 26, 2015. Delhi recorded moderate AQI levels on December, 4 with 178, December, 5 with 165 the last moderate AQI recorded was on December, 6 with 197.
