Rainfall Predicted in These States as Cold Wave Grips North India, IMD Announces Orange Warning

Today’s Weather Update: IMD expects light showers in several north India regions including HP, Punjab, Rajasthan and J&K due to western disturbances as dense fog prevails.

Many areas in north India are still reeling from the sustained freezing weather with temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh going below freezing. Monal, Delhi with light rain, while fog covered the entire city. As per the IMD, an orange colour warning has been sounded in many northern states due to an expected western disturbance.

The IMD has also predicted below normal cold wave this winter for the north western part of the country. Especially in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir the cold wave has been more severe as this has led to water supply pipelines freezing and even formation of thin layer of ice on water surfaces.

Rainfall Alerts for Various States:

The IMD has given the forecast that severe cold along with rainy weather may prevail in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana during the next one week.

There are different color codes for theMainMenu:{alert levels} Alerts: Orange Alert: for districts in the groups four the districts of Himachal Pradesh including Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Mandi.

In the next few days, isolated rain & thundershowers are likely to occur over the Delhi-NCR, parts of Uttar Pradesh & Haryana. In Punjab, partly cloudy and light rain conditions and fog conditions are expected in some areas of Chandigarh.

Light showers along with dense fog is expected over the next 24 hours in parts of west bengal including kolkata, howrah, hooghly, north and south 24 parganas, east and west Midnapur and Jhargram.

AQI Remains ‘Severe’ in Delhi

Delhi air quality too remained ‘severe with AQI index 403 till 7 am today as per CPCB. While specific areas that registered sexual crime offences showed even higher levels,Sarita Vihar recorded 439, Ashok Vihar 456, Bawana 473, CRRI Mathura Road 406 and Narela 430.

The AQI scale ranges from 0 – 50, which is considered good; 51-100 is considered satisfactory; 101 – 200 is moderate; 201-300 is poor; 301 – 400 is very poor; and 401 – 500 is severe. The authorities began implementing stage IV measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the NCR since December 16 because of the deteriorating air quality.
